Hi, my name is Ursula and I live in sunny South Africa. I am very honoured to be one of Digistamps4Joy designers.Today I am delighted to present my challenge to you.
Make your own embellishments
We all love using embellishments of some sort on our cards, and
nothing gives more satisfaction than making your own. So I invite you to
create an embellishment for your card. You may use anything you like,
paper, metal, clay...whatever you fancy...just come and join in the fun.
Challenge #73 runs from 7 to 20 August
On my card I have made a shrink plastic heart embellishment, and have a
small tutorial to help you along if you would like to use shrink
plastic.
(digistamp = Pocket love)
- Lightly sand shrink plastic with fine sandpaper in a crosshatch pattern (horizontal and vertical) before stamping or colouring.
- Stamp image with Stazon and colour if desired. Use pencils, markers,
chalks, etc. Use a large stamp as the plastic will shrink to about 45%
of its original size. Do not colour too darkly as colour intensifies
with shrinking. If stamping words, use large letters.
- Cut out image and punch a hole if wished ...(use for keyrings, charms, or jewellery) remember the hole will shrink too.
- Place your shrink plastic on a heat resistant surface and heat with
your heat gun, The plastic will curl and twist, but will eventually lie
flat...It is a good idea to work in a shallow box so the plastic
doesn’t blow away . Quickly place an acrylic block or wood from a
mounted stamp over the image while it is still warm, this will help it
to set flat.
If the image sticks to itself, you can gently pull it apart with tweezers and continue heating until it is flat.
If you don’t have a heat gun, it may be baked
in the oven at 150 - 175deg C (300 -350 deg F) for 3 - 5 minutes, it
will flatten out on its own, then remove from the oven.
Do not place on a bare baking tray ... place on a piece of heavyweight cardboard or Teflon sheet.
